Doctors fans have said it’s “madness” that the show is taking a break until September.

It has been announced that the medical soap will be off air for several weeks and that it will not be back until 4 September.

The show typically does take a summer break.

But disappointed fans have said it’s too long to be without their usual fix of life at the Mill Health Centre.

The news was announced this week on the show’s official Twitter page.

“Doctors will be off air and return to your screens on Monday 4th September,” the post said.

“In the meantime, Catch up on BBC iPlayer.”

One fan tweeted that it was a “crazy length” of time for it to be off screen.

“What can I do now? Gutted,” said someone else.

One viewer asked the BBC to “sort it out”, adding: “This is madness!! It’s getting earlier each year? You always used to break in July when Wimbledon started. Why so early?”

“I don't get why it has to have a holiday, other soaps don't,” said another fan.

“Why does this have to happen?” asked one baffled viewer.

“I get stop for the tennis but goodness start back in August!”

Somebody else tweeted: "Can’t believe there’s now a break until September! Why? No other soap does this!"

However, others pointed out the benefits of breaks, with one saying they “let the writers rest and recharge".

“Maybe the actors have other commitments like their family or stage shows, or maybe the writers need this time to catch up?” said someone else.
