Emma is uneasy about her first day back at work and Karen doesn't help matters by referring to her affair with Lena as 'a bit of gossip'. Karen later apologises, revealing other recent gossip. She mentions Al having cameras in his home to spy on his mother and Emma is horrified.

Later, Emma confronts Al by asking how he dares to uproot his poor mother then spy on her. Al tries to defend himself but this angers Emma more. She tells him they aren't all in some science experiment for his pleasure, claiming he is just as emotionally inept with his family as he is with everyone else. Al is stunned.

Meanwhile, Zara complains that her request to go on a course has completely disappeared from the minutes. Mrs Tembe is apologetic, but suggests they get someone in to do notes for the partners' meeting. Enter Valerie, who frequently interrupts and attempts to minute every single detail.

They talk of complaints and Daniel dismisses one very silly complaint about Sid. Mrs Tembe says she will deal with the complaint, but tells Valerie not to put it on the minutes and stresses to her the importance of confidentiality. However later Valerie tells that Sid his name came up a lot in the partners meeting but that most of the comments had to be off the record. Sid is nervous.

Elsewhere, Mrs Tembe goes on her date with Charles. When it goes well, Charles gently suggests they go to a literary festival together this weekend. Mrs Tembe tells him she would like that very much

Also today, Ayesha is frightened for her life when she is held hostage in a flat on the Churchill estate.
