A dog has been left unable to go for walks after her paw was cut by litter in a park. Honey, a golden Labrador, was left with three gashes in her paw after walking in Park Road Play Area off Fellowes Drive in Ramsey on April 20.

Her owner, Megan O’Riordan, believes the injuries were caused by sharp litter strewn across the ground. She said: "My husband took both our Labrador dogs out on Saturday for their usual walk, and Honey came running back with blood all over her paw.

"She has three gashes, which are quite large. My husband took our dog straight to the vets and paid £200 for her treatment.

"She’s on a course of antibiotics and I haven’t been able to go out and walk her.

"To be honest, I feel quite angry. Just for the sake of someone putting their rubbish in the bin she’s had to go through this.

"We’ve got a big bill and she looks pretty miserable as she can’t go on a walk. The field that we walk the dogs on, behind where we live, is always covered in rubbish.

"There’s broken glass and tin cans that have gone through the lawnmower and are really sharply cut. The grass was cut recently after being left to get so long that you couldn't see the rubbish underneath.

"It is a playing field for children and for people to walk their dogs on. This could have happened to a child.

"If this playing field was a bit more cared for, such as by the grass being cut a bit more frequently, maybe accidents would not happen as much."

A Huntingdonshire District Council spokesperson said: "Huntingdonshire District Council maintains the playing field off Fellowes Road in Ramsey, on behalf of the town council, but has no responsibility toward the play area. Our teams litter pick the field at least once per week, up to twice a week in Summer when usage is higher.

"The grass is cut 12 to 15 times per season. We encourage members of the public to use the litter bins provided or take their litter home with them where possible.

"If a resident notices litter within the park, we ask that they report it to us via this link."
