Donald Trump tells the world: If you don’t support our World Cup 2026 bid U.S won’t support you at the United Nations

U.S President Donald Trump has publicly backed the U.S, Canada and Mexico joint bid to host the Fifa World Cup in 2026, with a stinging warning to the rest of the world.

Taking to Twitter overnight, Trump implied that any country who does not stand with the U.S on the pitch, stands against them off it – ‘including at the United Nations’.

“The U.S. has put together a STRONG bid w/ Canada & Mexico for the 2026 World Cup,” Trump tweeted.

“It would be a shame if countries that we always support were to lobby against the U.S. bid.

“Why should we be supporting these countries when they don’t support us (including at the United Nations)?”

It was announced earlier this month that the three countries would unite in an attempt to host the global championships in eight years’ time.

The three-way bid initially raised eyebrows considering Trump’s aggressive stance towards Mexico and immigration enforcement, with President hoping to build a wall across the entirety of the border.

But speaking at the formal bid announcement on April 10, US Soccer Federation president Sunil Gulati insisting that the bid had the ‘full support of the United States government’.
