Brexit day: Donald Tusk tells Britain, 'We already miss you'
Donald Tusk has accepted Theresa May's Article 50 letter and Britain has begun the process of leaving the EU.
The President of the European Council said in his statement to Britain: "we already miss you. Thank you and goodbye".
Many Remainers on social media became emotional at the EU's reaction to Brexit.
Among these was JK Rowling, who tweeted: "When your ex is so noble about the break up you'd almost rather they threw a drink in your face".
Others commented on the farewell statement Mr Tusk made:
Tusk: "What can I add to this? We already miss you."

Donald Tusk says: “We already miss you. Thank you and goodbye.” And for some reason, my bottom lip wobbled.

Mr Tusk also said he will have proposal for Brexit negotiating mandate on Friday.
He wasn't completely sentimental about Britain leaving, saying Brexit was about "damage control".
