Donna Air to follow in Cheryl's footsteps in hit London show 30 years on from Byker Grove

More than three decades after she first shot to TV fame on Byker Grove, Donna Air has been cast in one of London's biggest shows, 2:22 A Ghost Story, with her co-stars including two Strictly Come Dancing winners and an Inbetweeners stars.

In the era of Byker Grove that also brought stardom for the likes of Ant and Dec, Charlie Hunnam and Jill Halfpenny, local lass Donna played aspiring model Charlie Charlton, with her then joining some of her co-stars in girl group Byker Grove, before she and Jayni Hoy forme duo Crush, who released singles Jellyhead and Luv'd Up and were big in Japan.

Donna's TV credits over the years have included a role in a Catherine Cookson drama, hosting gigs on MTV Select and The Big Breakfast and a more recent role in BBC drama The Split.

And now she's gearing up for a very different channel as she joins the cast of 2:22, the smash hit play penned by North East writer Danny Robins, which counts another Newcastle star, Cheryl, amongst its former stars.

Cheryl joined a list of stars including Lily Allen, Giovanna Fletcher and Laura Whitmore, when she took on the role of Jenny to rave reviews last year and now Donna has been confirmed to e playing, in a new production which will also feature ex Strictly winners Stacey Dooley and Joe McFadden and James Buckley, who has already been in 2:22 and is most famous for being Jay in The Inbetweeners.

Announcing her new venture on Instagram, an excited Donna wrote: "So thrilled to join the cast of one of my favourite plays!! Who is coming to the west end with me?!!"

The new cast of 2:22: A Ghost Story will open for a 10 week run on May 25.
