Downing Street has denied that Theresa May has bought herself a holiday home in Ireland for when she eventually leaves office.

It had been claimed that the Prime Minister and her husband Philip had bought a property in Dunmore East, County Waterford, in the south-east of the country.

According to the Munster Express, Mr May had already been on several trips to the popular fishing village to check out the newly-purchased property.

Estate agent Des Purcell had confirmed he sold a home in Dunmore East to someone “with an international reputation”.

However, a spokesman for Mrs May described the claims as “totally untrue”.

The PM told Tory MPs last month that she would quit once Brexit has been delivered, allowing a new leader to take charge of the next round of negotiations.

However, a series of defeats on her withdrawal bill and another extension to Article 50 has moved her no closer to the exit at Number 10.

Boris Johnson, Michael Gove and Sajid Javid are all tipped to replace Mrs May when she does finally leave Downing Street.
