The Smashing Pumpkins and Slayer have just been added to the line-up at next year's Download festival, which takes part between June 14-16 at Donington Park in Leicestershire.

The concert will mark Slayer's last ever UK show, when the band take to stage on June 15. The American thrash band, who have been together since 1981, are presently on their Farewell tour.

The titans of rock join Slipknot, Def Leppard and Tool, who were named top of the bill earlier in the year.

Def Leppard will make their only UK appearance of 2019 at the festival, with plans to play their 1987 album Hysteria in full.

Seventeen other acts have also been announced, including Whitesnake and legendary Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash, who will perform with Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators.

Elsewhere, Rob Zombie, Trivium, Amon Amarth, Carcass, Delain, Die Antwoord, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, Opeth, Power Trip, Reel Big Fish, Skindred, Starset, Tesla, The Amity Affliction and Underoath will all appear at the festival.

The UK metal institution has entertained fans ever since it launched back in 2003. This summer saw Guns N' Roses, Ozzy Osbourne and Avenged Sevenfold appear as headliners.

Speaking about playing the festival, Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott said: “We are delighted to be going back to headline Download in 2019. The festival has a very special place in our hearts and it’s such a great place to play.

"We will be playing Hysteria in full - yes, in full - plus a load more of the hits, and we are going to put on a very special show for our UK fans.”
