We can all agree that excess underarm sweat — especially in the heat of summer — is the pits. It’s uncomfortable and embarrassing, and the thought alone could bring on unwanted wetness.

“The purpose of sweating is to create a cooling sensation to thermoregulate the body to reduce heat through evaporation,” explains New York City-based dermatologist Neal Schultz to Yahoo Lifestyle. “And when the rate of sweating exceeds the rate of evaporation, then it collects, and you’re conscious of it.”

“But you’re sweating 24 hours a day,” he adds. “It’s called insensible perspiration and it is happening when the sweat that you produce evaporates faster than you make it. So, you’re not aware of it, and there’s no accumulation of wetness as a result of that evaporation.”

If you deal with excessive underarm sweat, however, then listen up because there’s a new antiperspirant that offers the highest level of sweat protection available without a prescription — and it lasts for seven days.

Dr. Sweat Clinical Strength Antiperspirant Deodorant Pads ($19.09) comes in a pack of 10 pre-soaked unscented pads made with 15 percent aluminum chloride, the highest level of protection you can get over the counter.

A single pad is all you need to reduce sweat for seven days — there’s no need for antiperspirant or deodorant. So one jar is enough for two months’ worth of clinically-proven sweat relief.

All you have to do is press the pad on clean and dry armpits, let the area dry for five minutes, and you’re good to go for the week. (Note: The directions state to use Dr. Sweat pads up to three times during the first week of use).

While the product is relatively new (it came out this summer), it’s already gaining fans among Amazon shoppers.

“I have been an excessive sweater all my life, and no clinical strength antiperspirant has remotely worked for me except this one,” explained one 5-star reviewer. “This has been my first week of trying this product, and I was shocked by the immediate results. The day after I applied the pads, I worked out and did a play at an outdoor theatre in the middle of the hot Texas summer, and my pits remained miraculously completely dry all day. This was absolutely shocking to me as a person who frequently sweats to the point of having plate-sized pit stains on T-Shirts in less than an hour in perfectly well air-conditioned rooms. I seriously have not sweat in a week.”

Another happy customer raved: “Saw this product when searching for hyperhidrosis treatments online and knew I had to try it. I sweat randomly and uncontrollably at certain times and consider myself an excessive sweater. I've tried a few different antiperspirants and deodorants, but nothing has worked like Dr. Sweat. Since week one, I noticed the armpit sweat stopped soaking through my shirt. This product seriously stops sweat!”

The reviewer continued: ”The pad application was different for me, but I found it fairly convenient and easy to use. I will admit I felt a little itchy when I applied it the first night, but when I saw the instructions and dried my armpits before the next application (like really towel-dried), I didn't have any issues. I used this every other night for the first week and am now down to one pad a week before bed, and I am still loving it. It works even after showering.

This is my new holy grail antiperspirant! Even though it says it's for underarms, it's been working on my sweaty hands as well. Would definitely recommend to anyone who's looking for a serious sweat solution.”
