Dramatic A12 police chase sees police dog detain man near Hatfield Peverel

A man has been arrested following a police chase on the A12. The 34-year-old man was arrested on Saturday (June 1) after police pursued by car, in which the man abandoned the vehicle and made off on foot in Hatfield Peverel, where he was chased down by Trigger, a determined police dog, who successfully detained the man.

Essex police officers spotted a vehicle that was believed to be linked to a theft of motor vehicle offence. The car was seen driving along the A12 at around 9.20pm and police indicated for the vehicle to be stopped.

While the officers pulled the vehicle in question over initially, it then made off and was pursued along the A12 before stopping and the man inside getting out at Hatfield Peverel.

Despite initially managing to get away, Police Dog, Trigger, was deployed and managed to detain the man. A spokesperson from Essex Police stated that: “A man has been arrested after work from one of our police dogs following a pursuit on the A12”.

The 34-year-old man, from South Ockendon, was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, failing to stop when directed, driving while disqualified, failing to provide a sample, possession of a Class A drug, and possession of a Class B drug.

He is currently in custody.
