Drew Barrymore Reveals Her Adorable Nickname for Ben Stiller 23 Years After Making “Duplex” Together
"I would recommend anybody who ever has a chance to do a movie with Drew Barrymore do it because it's literally — it's the best experience," Stiller said
Drew Barrymore and Ben Stiller are reminiscing.
When Stiller, 59, appeared on the Tuesday, Jan. 21 episode of The Drew Barrymore Show to promote the second season of his Apple TV+ series Severance with its stars Adam Scott and Britt Lower, Barrymore, 49, revealed a nickname she created for Stiller more than 20 years ago when they costarred in the movie Duplex.
"And this is Benjamin Rabbit's first time [on the show,]" host Barrymore said during the on-air conversation. "Benjamin Rabbit," she repeated, while making bunny ears signs with her hands. "And we did this film together that I love. I still — I quote that film every day."
"Yeah, I had the best time working with you," Stiller responded, before Scott, 51, asked the pair to confirm that the "Benjamin Rabbit" nickname originates from Duplex, a 2003 dark comedy directed by Danny DeVito.
"I would recommend anybody who ever has a chance to do a movie with Drew Barrymore do it because it's literally — it's the best experience," Stiller said.
Duplex costarred Stiller and Barrymore as a couple who purchase a duplex-style apartment building in New York City and quickly come into conflict with an elderly woman who lives in a rent-controlled unit on the building's top floor.

Stiller heaped praise upon his experience working with Barrymore on the movie, which also starred Eileen Essell, Harvey Fierstein, Justin Theroux, Maya Rudolph and Wallace Shawn. "I mean you are who you are in real life," he told the actress-turned-talk show host. "This beautiful positivity that you put out into the world is who you are and working on a set with you was just so much fun and you brought — because I'm not always so positive and you lifted me up and I really just really enjoyed it. And my daughter was born while we were filming the movie,
Stiller is known for his extensive work as a film director and actor. He stays behind the camera on Severance as a producer and director, but he told Barrymore elsewhere during his appearance that he is "looking forward to directing more movies" moving forward.
"It’s funny I feel like I've been sort of I've been hiding out a little bit in non-comedies as a director and actor because I think comedies are harder," he said, when Barrymore asked if he intends to make comedies moving forward. "It's challenging because when you make a comedy people expect to laugh, and if you don't, a very measurable goal and if you don't hit it . . . There's nothing more fun though, as I'm sure you know, than sitting in the audience of like at a movie theater watching a comedy."
The second season of Severance premieres new episodes on Apple TV+ on Thursdays. The Drew Barrymore Show airs on CBS.
