Drifters Now Linked To Backpacker's Killing

Three young drifters suspected in the shooting of a yoga teacher are now accused of killing a Canadian backpacker in San Francisco.

Audrey Carey was found shot dead on Saturday in Golden Gate Park following the first day of the Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival.

The 23-year-old, from Quebec, was on a solo backpacking trip in the US when she was killed. Her belongings were also missing.

Morrison Haze Lampley, 23, Sean Michael Angold, 24, and Lila Scott Alligood, 18, will be arraigned on Friday over her murder.

The three are also suspected of killing Steve Carter, whose body was found on Monday on a hiking trail 20 miles north of San Francisco.

They were arrested in Portland after authorities allegedly tracked Mr Carter's car using GPS technology.

San Francisco Police Department said there were similarities between the two shootings, so they travelled to Portland to investigate.

Sergeant Michael Andraychak said Ms Carey's property was found in the suspects' possession.

He said: "The three suspects will be charged with the robbery and murder of Audrey Carey."

On Thursday, officials said they had recovered the gun believed to have been used to kill Mr Carter.

A hiker found his body. The 67-year-old was still holding the leash of his Doberman pinscher, which had also been shot but survived.

Authorities have said the three suspects are drifters. None of them has a known permanent address.
