A woman who was disqualified from driving after racking up 26 points on her licence was caught driving with “no hands” while eating her dinner at the wheel.

Amy Richards, 50, drove through a busy town centre while holding her plate in one hand and scooping food into her mouth with the other.

Officers initially began following Richards when they were alerted to the car being untaxed.

But Richards, from Cranleigh, Surrey, then swerved onto the other side of the road as she went through Guildford town centre on 22 October last year.

When officers got nearer, they realised Richards had been tucking into a meal behind the wheel and that she already had 26 points on her licence with two speeding offences.

She was also uninsured and had been banned from driving until the following year.

Richards was charged with driving while disqualified, using a vehicle while uninsured and driving while not in proper control.

She pleaded guilty to all three charges at Staines Magistrates’ Court and was banned from driving for a further two years with an additional six points placed on her licence.

Richards must reapply to the DVLA and request a new driving licence before she is allowed back behind the wheel after her two-year ban.

She was ordered by the court to pay £287 in fines, costs and surcharges following her most recent offence.
