Driver 'assessed by paramedics' after two-car crash near pub

A driver was 'assessed by paramedics' after a two-car collision near a pub on Saturday night, the fire service has revealed.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Mauldeth Road in Burnage shortly after 11pm. The M.E.N. understands the collision happened near to the Victoria Inn, at the road's junction with Burnage Lane.

There's been no update from the fire service or police as to the extent of any injuries or whether anyone was taken to hospital as a result.

It's understood roads in the area were closed and a Volkswagen was one of the two cars involved. According to reports from the scene, one car ended up on its side.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said specialist units were sent to the scene and firefighters were there for around 30 minutes. Two cars, they added, were involved.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: "Shortly after 11pm on Saturday (29 June), two fire engines from Gorton and Withington fire stations, and the Technical Response Unit from Ashton-under-Lyne Community Fire Station, were called to attend a road traffic collision involving two cars on Mauldeth Road, Manchester.

"Crews arrived quickly and used specialist equipment to make the area safe.

"One driver was assessed by North West Ambulance Service at the scene. Firefighters were in attendance for approximately 30 minutes."

No further details have been revealed. The M.E.N. has contacted Greater Manchester Police for comment.
