A female driver had a lucky escape when she lost control on a 20mph road and ended up flipping her vehicle onto two parked cars.

The freak accident happened in front of stunned drinkers at 8.45pm on Wednesday at The Boathouse pub in Braunston, Northants.

Witnesses said the car, a blue Renault Kangoo, was travelling along a newly resurfaced road when the driver lost control and careered down two grass banks.

When the car hit the bottom of the second slope it flipped into the air before landing roof-to-roof with two parked cars.

Incredibly, no one was hurt in the crash and the female driver, in her 50s, managed to haul herself out of the car.

Matt Smith, who was in the pub when the accident happened, said: 'Some kids came running in screaming that there had been a crash.

'We all dashed out and by the time we got there, the woman had climbed out on her own.

'Her legs were shaking but she was unhurt. She was very lucky.'

Northamptonshire Police said a 44-year-old woman has since been arrested and charged with drink driving.
