Driver Jailed After Reverse Ramming Police Car

A driver who reversed at speed into a police car back in November 2022, causing “serious leg, back, neck and arm injuries” to an officer, has been sentenced at a UK court.

Leicestershire Police released dashcam footage of the incident, which shows a Land Rover being driven by 21-year-old Gerald McDonagh of Markfield.

The Land Rover is seen driving into a lane, closely followed by PC James Yeoman’s patrol vehicle. It then reverses at speed, ramming the police car.

Leicestershire Police said that the incident left Yeoman with “serious leg, back, neck and arm injuries”, and condemned McDonagh’s actions.

“We expect an element of risk in our job but when a suspect deliberately drives at speed towards a police car that is totally unacceptable,” Sgt Steve Jackson, of the force’s Roads Policing Unit, said.
