A motorist whose car hit and badly injured a dog walker has been jailed for a year.

David Johnstone, 32, was also disqualified from driving for 27 months when he appeared at Airdrie Sheriff Court.

Sheriff Joseph Hughes told him he must resit his test if he wants to drive again.

Johnstone, of Lochalsh Place, Airdrie, admitted driving dangerously on the town's Drumbathie Road on March 16, 2021.

He failed to keep a proper lookout and reversed at speed, knowing that a woman was walking her dog behind him.

She was knocked to the ground and suffered serious head and body injuries.

The court heard the woman has made a full recovery.

Johnstone was on bail at the time but an allegation that he was under the influence of drugs when the collision happened was deleted.
