Drivers will be left facing a 70-mile diversion route when the A12 is closed again later this month.

A section of the major route between Blythburgh and Darsham, near Southwold, will be closed overnight between May 13 and 17.

The works will take place between 8pm and 5am.

While the road is closed Suffolk Highways will be carrying out work involving lining and stud repairs.

According to the Suffolk County Council website, the official diversion route is 70 miles long.

The diversion route includes A roads because some vehicles like HGVs cannot go down smaller roads that others would use as shortcuts.

The 70-mile diversion has been in place before and will take drivers along the A1120, A140, A143, A145, A12 and vice versa.
