Drone Footage Details Tornado Devastation in Sumrall, Mississippi

A tornado caused devastation in Sumrall, Mississipi, on December 16, with numerous buildings destroyed. Local reports suggest that “at least 14 tornadoes” swept through the Deep South on this date.

The National Weather Service in Jackson, Mississipi, said that a preliminary damage survey the following day suggested that an EF2 tornado went through Lamar County around Sumrall and then into far southern Covington County in Mississipi. The wind speeds were estimated to be 132mph.

Seven women had to be transported to a hospital after storms damaged the Douglas Graham Group Home in Sumrall, according to reports. The injuries were, however minor, according to Lamar County EMA Director James Smith.
