Drug Chase in Chile Ends in Shooting Near Bolivian Border

A drug chase in Chile ended in a shooting incident involving police and army personnel, Chilean police said on February 12, posting video showing a bullet-damaged vehicle.

The confrontation happened in San Pedro de Atacama, near the border with Bolivia, when police attempted to inspect a white van. The driver evaded the checkpoint, leading to a pursuit during which police were shot at, local media reported.

Police and military returned fire, and the suspects abandoned the van, which contained 152 kilos of marijuana, according to police.
