A drug dog found cocaine and ketamine in a man's car.

Cops stopped Humza Beg's vehicle around 5.50pm on June 17, 2023, on Beverly Road in Newlands.

As officers approached, they detected a strong smell of cannabis and a drug dog was required.

During the search, a number of substances were found in a zip-lock bag.

Beg, of Thornliebank, stated it was cocaine and ketamine. He was arrested, cautioned and charged.

The cocaine was later found to be worth £140. It was divided into six bags.

The ketamine was valued at £260.

The 27-year-old appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court last week, after pleading guilty to being in possession of cocaine with intent to supply and being in possession of ketamine.

His lawyer said: "He has got prior convictions, he has got a record. But this is a relatively small amount of drugs.

"His position is that he was struggling at the time this offence took place. It was after the death of his father. He got involved in this kind of thing.

"He is studying to be a personal trainer. He works at call centres. He has an income. He is suitable for unpaid work or a tag.

"He is asking for the opportunity of a non-custodial sentence.

"There are no other matters. He is trying to better himself. He cares for his mother, who is elderly. He is asking for some leniency."

Sheriff Vincent Lunny told the solicitor: "He has to be careful, this is going on his record that he is dealing cocaine."

Beg was tagged for 27 weeks, which will require him to stay at home between 7pm and 7am each day.
