A drug driver has been sentenced after being involved in a near-miss crash while leaving a car meet.

Joshua Graves of Stour Green in Ely appeared at Norwich Magistrates' Court on Tuesday after pleading guilty to drug driving and possession of cannabis.

The 24-year-old has been disqualified from driving for 12 months, fined £369 and ordered to pay £85 in costs and a victim surcharge of £148.

Police spotted Graves after he was involved in a near-miss collision as he left a car meet in Thetford on the evening of January 6.

Due to his manner of driving, officers approached Graves in his car and noticed an overpowering smell of cannabis.

Graves admitted to having recently used cannabis and to cannabis being present in the car.

A roadside drug wipe produced a positive result for cannabis and he was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and possession of a Class B drug.

He was taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Station for questioning where he was released under investigation and later charged with both offences.
