Dubai Has Unveiled An Office Block Made Entirely By 3D Printers
It seems like we’re living in the future - after Dubai unveiled an entire 3D-printed building.
The futuristic office building is made from a strong, resilient concrete mixture and was ‘printed’ by a huge specialised machine that created the building over the space of 17 days.
But far from being a one-off, officials hope that the building will act as a glimpse of the future - with plans to 3D print almost 50 percent of Dubai’s buildings by 2030, claiming that they cut production time by almost half.
The new development, which has a floor space of 2,700 ft, used a special mixture of cement and underwent extensive durability testing in both Britain and China, according to government officials.
The building’s creation comes during somewhat of a renaissance period for 3D printing - with the technology widely used to make smaller 3D objects, and even replacement organs suitable for medical transplants.
Mohamed Al Gergawai, the United Arab Emirates Minister of Cabinet Affairs, said: ‘This is the first 3D-printed building in the world, and it’s not just a building, it has fully functional offices and staff.
‘We believe this is just the beginning. The world will change’.
