Duke And Duchess Get Planning Permission For £60,000 Tennis Court

It’s no secret that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are big tennis fans. The royals are often spotted at Wimbledon and are both keen players themselves.

In fact, they enjoy the sport so much they’re planning to install a £60,000 astro-turf tennis court at their family home in Norfolk.

The new tennis court will replace the already existing court at Anmer Hall, which has fallen into disrepair, and will be built 36ft away from the original to “improve the views” from the 10-bedroom home, according to The Daily Mail.

The site of the original tennis court is to be turned into part of the back garden, which can’t be seen from the public road. No doubt an attempt to give the family space to raise their children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte away from prying eyes.

The Sandringham estate was granted planning permission for the work by King’s Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council after “no members of the public, councillors or officials from public bodies objected to the plans.”

A design statement with the planning application explained: “The current tennis court needs extensive work to resurface and we have been advised that to resurface we need to remove all the existing court and start again.

It also mentioned: “Moving the court further away from the Hall improves the views from the Hall and locates the court largely in an area of undeveloped garden.”

This isn’t the first time Kate and Wills have done up their family home. Anmer Hall has reportedly undergone extensive renovation and has had an estimated £1.5m spent on it since the Queen gifted it to Prince William.

Kensington Palace said: “The new court will not be paid from public funds and is replacing the existing court which needed extensive resurfacing.”
