Duke and Duchess of Cambridge pregnant: @IamRoyalBaby twitter account created

"Hey everyone, it's me."

The royal baby will be a child of firsts: the first baby for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the first grandchild for the Prince of Wales - and the first royal baby to have a twitter account..

The first words of a baby is highly anticipated for any parent. In the alternative world of Twitter an unofficial account has already been created in honour of the next royal family member. "Hey everyone, it's me", tweeted @IamRoyalBaby.

In an hour the Twitter handle @IamRoyalBaby already had 2,000 followers. Apparently sporting a cheeky sense of humour, the follow-up tweet read: "I can confirm I am not ginger".

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge announced today that they were expecting and both families are said to be delighted.

Also taking to Twitter, David Cameron wrote: "I'm delighted by the news that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expecting a baby. They will make wonderful parents."

The wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attracted huge media, public and tourist attention. Their baby will be no different.

The hashtag #royalbaby was trending on Twitter almost immediately after the announcement. Another spoof Twitter handle has sprung up under the name @RoyalFoetus, ensuring that the royal pregnancy will be dissected and talked about on the social media network.

And @IamRoyalBaby tweeted that another Bank Holiday could be in the works.
