Dundee put on blast over Rangers pitch farce as Hotline diehard thinks he's cracked it with the 'perfect' solution

The Dundee pitch fiasco was the talk of the town as a Wednesday Hotline was ringing off the hook.

The Dens Park pitch passed an 11am pitch inspection ahead of their rearranged showdown with Rangers. But heavy rain is expected in Tayside and, with a further inspection pencilled in for 3.30pm, it's remains in serious doubt whether the game will be playable by kick-off time.

But whether it passes or doesn't, Gary Stevenson, Newtonhill, said: "It cannot be argued that Dundee have had a great season. However, if they cannot produce a pitch playable in Scottish conditions they quite simply do not belong in the Premiership. It's not as if we are not used to rain in Scotland and this fiasco is an embarrassment to the Scottish game."

Neil Renton, Leith, jokingly asked: "If the Dundee and Rangers game doesn’t go ahead and the Ibrox side are given the three points - how many penalties will they get in the imaginary win?"

Philippe Clement has demanded solutions from the SFA and SPFL over the pitch farce and Scott Gowers, Edinburgh, reckons he has one. Would it be popular, though? You decide...

He wrote in: "I have a perfect solution which would aid three clubs regarding Dundee's dangerous pitch. The match should be postponed and played at Parkhead on Thursday with Rangers getting 30 per cent of the support, Dundee getting 50 per cent of the ground and the other 20 per cent made up by Celtic fans supporting Dundee.

"This technically would be a home game for Dundee so they receive vast revenues to firstly aid the repair of their non playable pitch, this even after the ground hire and policing costs. More Rangers fans could attend and Celtic can make extra money to help cover some of their compensation order costs whilst their supporters get the chance to back another team against Rangers. The only problem with this is that all the weekend games would have to be moved to Sunday which isn't impossible."

Meanwhile Scott McAdam, Partick, said: Dundee's pitch is the worst surface in the league and will be a big leveller. Don't know what Fabio Silva will do if there's no water there to dive in to."

That kindly leads us onto our next talking point as Silva takes some serious flak for his antics against Celtic. Michael Shaddick, Edinburgh, said: "Silva was in a shop yesterday, fell over his own feet and wanted a penalty!"

John Scott, Grassmoor, said: "Will someone explain to Philippe Clement that two wrongs don't make a right? The antics of Silva were reminiscent of football in Europe and South America 30 years ago. But rather than admit his player was rather melodramatic he instead accused a Celtic player of being a prolific diver. Not in this game but in many others he claims.

"Even if that is factual its hardly what is expected of a manager looking to walk into the English Premier. Mind you Silva is lucky. Lucky he's not Martin Boyle who has been denied recent penalties just as contentious as Silvas. And we all know why."

There was some balance in the ranks though as Scott Cassidy said: "Am I the only Celtic fan that thinks Silva's was a pen? It was Poor from Johnstone, VAR did its job three times on Sunday and Beaton came out with a gold star for that pressure performance. Once we get them at Parkers, it’s done."

A word for Airdrie in the Championship as John Davidson, Kirkintilloch, said: "Looking good for the Airdrie faithful, one trophy in the cabinet and prospect of the play offs for a place in the Premiership. Another up and coming young manager in Rhys McCabe."

And the final word goes out to a Scottish sporting legend. Record Sport send our best wishes to Willie Limond who is critically ill after suffering a seizure. James Logan, Glasgow, said: "I read in the Daily Record that Willie Limond is fighting for his life. Not only a great of Scottish boxing, but a real gentleman respected by everyone who knows him. Praying that he makes a full recovery."
