A leading Dundee United fans group has urged supporters to not spoil the club's Championship title party on Friday night with another pitch invasion.

Last week's goalless draw away to Airdrieonians was enough to seal Jim Goodwin's side's return to the top-flight with a game to spare, having all but secured the title with a 1-0 home win against Ayr on April 20. In both games, exuberant Arabs fans spilled onto the pitch after the full-time whistle, with Irishman Goodwin himself now calling on supporters to behave themselves when Partick Thistle visit Tannadice on the final day of the regular Championship season on Friday night.

Those sentiments have been echoed by the Federation of Dundee United Supporters, who have also pleaded with punters to remain seated at full time, otherwise the trophy presentation in front of a ram-packed Tannadice could be overshadowed. A statement read: "The Federation of Dundee United Supporters Clubs would like to highlight that unless all fans remain within the stands after the final whistle on Friday night, this may jeopardise any official DUFC celebration.

"The official celebration will give the players and staff of Dundee United the opportunity to be presented with the Championship trophy and allow them to celebrate that moment with the fans. If there is any encroachment onto the pitch, this may result in no presentation of the trophy or lap of honour. Let's enjoy the night and celebrate in style."
