DWP will pay £434 a month for hearing issues - check if you are eligible

People over State Pension age could get a boost to their income if they have hearing issues. It is estimated there are 12 million adults living with a hearing condition or deafness in the UK.

But just 35,633 receive additional financial support from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP). Extra cash could be offered through Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Adult Disability Payment (ADP) or Attendance Allowance.

Attendance Allowance is a tax-free benefit for people of state pension age, with more than 1.5 million people currently supported.

It is paid to people who have a disability or illness and need help or supervision throughout the day or at times during the night.

Depending on the level of care needed, claimants could receive either £72.65 or £108.55 per week. This is paid every four weeks and comes to £290.60 and £434.20, Mirror reports.

During the 2024/25 financial year, about 8,616 people over state pension age are expected to receive Attendance Allowance payments each week due to a hearing condition. But this is thought to be just a fraction of the number who are entitled to it.
