Global connections from East Midlands Airport (EMA) are now possible from a new link with Paris. The move has come ahead of a busy year in the French capital, with the Summer Olympics on the horizon.

The link, which is run by Eastern Airways, allows travellers from Castle Donington’s EMA to reach France’s Charles De Gaulle Airport. The site is the principal hub for Air France and is one of the busiest airports in the world, offering connections to 276 destinations across the globe.

EMA’s new link means that the possibility to go anywhere in the world from the starting point of Leicestershire is now possible.

Steve Griffiths, EMA’s managing director, said: “Ongoing connectivity via a major European hub has been a strategic aim of this airport for some time. I’m therefore delighted that this partnership with Eastern Airways and Air France opens up global destinations within one stop of East Midlands Airport for our customers.”

The move follows Eastern Airways’ switch of Paris destination from Orly to Charles De Gaulle earlier this year. Since then, Air France has introduced the option to directly book a point-to-point journey from EMA to any of its worldwide destinations via Charles De Gaulle. It means people could now travel to the likes of the USA, Canada, Africa, India and the Middle East via Castle Donington.

The new link service, which operates into T3 at Charles De Gaulle Airport, comes ahead of Paris hosting the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. All fares into Paris from EMA will include complimentary onboard service, with two departing flights and two returning flights per day six days a week. Saturday flights will be added during the summer holidays, including the period of the Olympics which run between Friday, July 26 and Sunday, August 11.

Mr Griffiths said: “While most of our customers will continue to choose us to effortlessly reach their favourite European holiday destinations, we hope they and new customers will be attracted by this new option to use EMA as the starting point for travel to destinations much further afield.”

People can take advantage of the new Paris Charles De Gaulle point-to-point journey via the Air France website. More information can be found on the EMA website.
