Tonight's episode of EastEnders (January 16) finally saw Max Branning accept there's no hope left for his daughter Abi.

The soap previously confirmed that Abi's (Lorna Fitzgerald) final scenes will air this Friday, though Max (Jake Wood) was still holding out hope that she'll make a miracle recovery.

Abi has been on the critical list since Christmas Day, when she fell from the roof of the Queen Vic in a horror accident.

In the latest episode, Max resorted to desperate measures to save Abi, barricading himself in her room and refusing to let the staff enter.

Lauren (Jaqueline Jossa) was panicked when she saw what Max had done, and as the situation escalated, Max's family attempted to reason with him.

Max refused to give up, before a nurse opened up to him and shared her own personal experience – prompting Max to calm down and allow the staff in the room, and accept his daughter is dead.

Fans praised Jacqueline Jossa and Jake Wood's acting in the episode:
