EastEnders' Max and Dot are breaking viewers' hearts

Tonight's (January 18) EastEnders saw emotions running high, as Max Branning struggled to come to terms with the thought of switching off his daughter Abi's life-support machine.

His attempts to build a cot for Abi's newborn daughter didn't go too well, as his anger got the better of him and he smashed up the bed as soon as he'd finished constructing it.

Luckily, Max's brother Jack and his former stepmother Dot were on hand to comfort him.

Dot's usual words of wisdom were all that could get Max out of his house and to the hospital to visit his new granddaughter – and viewers couldn't stop sobbing over the emotional conversation between them:
