Yahoo News EastEnders' Steven faces a devastating arson dilemma
EastEnders schemer Steven Beale faces a terrible dilemma tonight (August 17) as he struggles under the pressure of Max Branning's twisted demands.
Steven (Aaron Sidwell) received a nasty shock earlier this week as Max ordered him to help get rid of some tenants who he needed to remove from a property – warning that he'd need a petrol can to make it happen. Yikes.
Whether Max (Jake Wood) wants his unwilling accomplice to murder the troublesome tenants or just scare them off isn't yet clear, but it's fair to say that Steven wants absolutely nothing to do with the arson plan.
As Max heaps even more pressure on him in tonight's episode, Steven starts to crumble and decides that he'd rather tell his girlfriend Lauren the truth about everything than be blackmailed.
Viewers know that Max has major leverage over Steven as he's caught him out for telling lies about having a brain tumour, but Steven is prepared to come clean as the alternative of following Max's orders seems even more frightening.
Expecting Lauren to return from her trip imminently, Steven kicks off his attempts to do the right thing by telling her sister Abi that their recent affair was a mistake.
Steven adds that it's Lauren he wants to be with, but will he go through with his plan to confess everything to her? Or will an unexpected obstacle stand in his way? Could Max's arson plan still come to fruition after all?
EastEnders airs these scenes tonight (August 17) at 7.30pm on BBC One.
