Yahoo News EastEnders' Tanya Franks is reprising Rainie Cross role
EastEnders is bringing back yet another classic character as Tanya Franks is set to reprise her role as troublemaker Rainie Cross – and this time her return is coming sooner than you'd think.
Tanya has played the role on and off since 2007, but the actress's latest stint as Rainie will kick off tomorrow night (January 19) as she returns to Walford for a brief appearance before her big comeback storyline gets underway later this year.
"It's like never having been away. I love working with everyone at EastEnders," Tanya said about her return.
"With John Yorke at the helm at the moment, the show is in good hands and I'm excited to explore the next chapter in Rainie's journey."
Rainie was introduced back in 2007 as the drug-addicted sister of Tanya Branning (Jo Joyner) who caused trouble for the Branning family as she continued to battle that addiction.
Over her three guest stints in the show, her storylines have seen her caught up in the Lucy Beale murder storyline, having been with Ian Beale on the night of his daughter's murder, as well as involved in a controversial crack cocaine storyline with Phil Mitchell.
Rainie was last seen on the soap in 2014, where she ended her run by stealing all of her mother Cora's money after Cora had promised to help her get clean.
The character's return to the soap tomorrow night coincides with the day Abi Branning's life support is due to be switched off, so Rainie will be joining her family to say her goodbyes to her niece with the Branning family.
Tanya will then return to the soap properly in the spring, with the actress due to begin filming in the coming weeks. But, considering Rainie's rough history in Walford, it's safe to say her comeback isn't likely to go down too well with the locals. What trouble will she get into this time?
