Danny Dyer has spilt the beans on his EastEnders character's fate. He confirmed that Mick Carter is indeed dead, despite fans' speculation, but suggested he could still return to the soap.

The actor, who bid farewell to the BBC One soap in 2022 after a nine-year stint, saw his character disappear at sea during the Christmas storyline.

Speaking to Heat magazine, Dyer addressed the constant questions about his potential return: "Everyone is asking when I'm going back to EastEnders, which is very interesting to me." He then dropped the bombshell, "But he's dead!"

Yet, Dyer teased that this might not be the end of Mick Carter's appearances on the show. With the soap's 40th anniversary approaching in February, he hinted at possible cameos, saying: "Look, I take it as a compliment that people want me to go back. Who knows? If there's no closure there, then maybe I would come back for a dream sequence. I don't think Mick could just rock up covered in seaweed!"

The star suggested that Mick could feature in a dream or hallucination experienced by his on-screen wife Linda Carter, played by Kellie Bright.

"I think if they did it right, with the 40th anniversary coming up, if they came up with an idea of maybe Linda drunk or hallucinating, then I would come back and do some scenes with her," he said.

Dyer expressed his fondness for his time on EastEnders and his co-star, admitting he misses working alongside Bright and wouldn't mind returning for a special stint.

He said: "You know, because I do miss Kellie, and I think maybe that would stop people asking me when I'm going back! ".

Since waving goodbye to Albert Square, Dyer has not only featured in The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer and Celebrity Gogglebox, but he's also snagged a part in the British-Australian thriller Heat and is set to host the new game show Scared of The Dark.
