EastEnders' Jonny Labey Shares Horrific Homophobic Abuse He Has Been Receiving Since Paul Coker’s Death

If you have only just stopped crying over Paul Coker’s heartbreaking death in EastEnders earlier this week then we’re sorry, but you’re probably going to start again.

Although this time you will be crying over the state of the world in general.

Just one day after it was revealed that Paul’s brutal death was the result of a homophobic attack in the hit BBC One soap, the actor who played him - Jonny Labey - has shared an example of the homophobic abuse that he has been receiving on Twitter since his death aired.

Absolutely disgusting.

Referencing the horrific massacre in Orlando gay club Pulse, which took the lives of 49 innocent people last month, Twitter user @NabilFekirinho wrote: “@jonnylabey You should’ve died in Orlando instead pal”.

Clearly outraged by the message, Jonny retweeted it and added: “Twitter, please feel free to comment and remind this brave individual that it’s 2016 #nowords #ignoranceisignorance”.

The actor was immediately inundated with support from his followers, who responded to say that they had reported the vile account, however, the original tweet remains on the troll’s page although he did seemingly see the error of his ways and later begged Jonny to unblock his profile, writing: “@jonnylabey Sorry for my disgusting comments pal, unblock me.

"I was wrong. I’m a bad person.”

In an exclusive interview with Yahoo Celebrity, Jonny recently told us that he hoped his role as a gay man in TV’s biggest soap would help to change ignorant mindsets, explaining: “Most of my friends are gay, I don’t shy from it, I know what happens in that community.

"I’m very much included in it and I love the community, love is love, and I’m a massive supporter of that. If I can use my jobs to prove a point and get people to stop being so cold-minded about it then I will because it’s something that I find ridiculous that happens today.”

Needless to say, we couldn’t agree more - and kudos to Jonny for calling out this individual’s disgusting comments.
