EastEnders promises huge twist in 'never done before' episode next week

EastEnders spoilers follow.

EastEnders has shed more light on a first-of-its-kind storyline for the soap set to air during its anniversary week.

The BBC has confirmed that Monday's (February 20) episode will revolve around Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) hosting a lock-in at the Vic for some of her friends — Denise (Diane Parish) Kathy (Gillian Taylforth), Sharon (Letitia Dean), Stacey (Lacey Turner) and Suki (Balvinder Sopal).

What begins as a routine night at the pub changes in a flash, leaving all of the women involved facing an uncertain future.

Unlike most weeks where episodes are released early, EastEnders will be premiering this episode simultaneously on both BBC One and the BBC iPlayer at 7.30pm.

Executive Producer Chris Clenshaw has promised: "We’re all incredibly excited for Monday’s episode with six of Walford’s leading ladies at the fore. What may seem like a regular day in Walford soon takes a twist and what transpires for each and every one of them is that in a flash everything changes.

"This episode will leave the audience with a lot of questions and, what may seem like the end, is only just the beginning of some very big storylines that will play out this year.”

The producer previously hinted at a first-of-its-kind story for Linda Carter on the soap when previewing the soap's slate for 2023.

"Linda’s still very much at the heart of Albert Square and it’s so great to have Kellie," Clenshaw told Digital Spy in December.

"She’s not going to get over Mick very quickly. She was just reunited with him then he was snatched away from her so it won’t be all smiles straight away, but there are big plans for Linda.

"She’s going to start shooting something in January that goes out in February and it’s something that we as a show haven’t done before. Linda’s at the centre of that."

The other women invited to the lock-in all have their own dramas going on, ranging from Denise's affair with Ravi Gulati to Stacey Slater's struggle over daughter Lily's pregnancy.

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
