Yahoo News EastEnders reveals some bad news for Derek Harkinson
EastEnders is delving into Derek Harkinson's past after he received some upsetting news in the show's latest episode.
The new plot began on Monday night (June 26) as Derek heard that his future at the Minute Mart was under threat because he'd failed to be honest with his employers.
Yolande Trueman, who works in head office at the supermarket chain, broke the bad news to Derek after visiting Walford especially to see him.
Derek was visibly upset as Yolande told him that he was in trouble for failing to declare a criminal record, which could now lead to him losing his job.
Feeling dejected, Derek later declined an invite to join Patrick Trueman's birthday celebrations at the Queen Vic, preferring to be on his own as he pondered his fate.
Long-term viewers will remember that Derek previously got himself in hot water with the police by taking the rap for Martin Fowler when he was caught growing cannabis.
It's not clear yet whether this is the conviction Yolande is talking about, but we do know that the storyline continues in Tuesday's episode (June 27) when Derek receives even more bad news.
Later in the week, Derek also decides to have a heart-to-heart with Johnny Carter, which sees him finally open up with the full story behind his current predicament. But what will Derek have to share – the cannabis mistake or something else entirely?
Monday's EastEnders episode was also the second time that we've seen former regular Yolande this year. She last appeared on our screens for a single episode in March, with Angela Wynter reprising the role after an eight-year absence.
This time, Yolande had a welcome catch-up with her ex-husband Patrick and promised not to leave it so long until their next meeting, causing fans to wonder whether she could come back again and if there's still a spark between the former couple.
