EastEnders' Shane Richie has hinted at Alfie Moon's fate after the character went on the run with fifty-grand pilfered from perennial hardman/piggy bank, Phil Mitchell.

Speaking on This Morning, Eamonn Holmes suggested Shane's cheeky cockney character was brown bread (dead), but he shot back: "Oi oi, back off."

Since his character went missing, Kat (Jessie Wallace) received a mysterious text message saying: "I'm in trouble. Need 48 hours. Trust me. X"

Shane explained: "That's right, I'd like to think it is me, Kat keep the faith. Alfie's on the run as a drag queen in Spain. No, Alfie's on the run with Phil Mitchell's 50 grand.

"They've left the door open and I know Kate Oates, who's there now, is a wonderful executive producer and she's bringing in some wonderful new characters and some great storylines. I hope there's a chance for Alfie to come back one day."

Alfie went AWOL from Albert Square after his scheme selling dodgy funeral plans to under-30s backfired on him.

Soon bailiffs turned up at the Slater house, taking their possessions to settle Alfie's debts, and Kat was informed that Alfie's car had been abandoned on the edge of a cliff.

Later Phil Mitchell revealed that Alfie has taken off with his £50,000 borrowed to pay off Alife's debt, but in actuality it was hidden in one of Kat's cupboards.

The double bill ended with another mysterious text saying: "Keep the faith. I'll be home soon."

Meanwhile, Shane Richie is appearing as a Sheffield drag queen in the stage production of Everybody's Talking About Jamie.

Speaking about taking on the role he said: "When I got offered the job and I say down with the director I want to bring something new to playing a drag queen.

"As a eighteen, nineteen-year-old I toured with drag queens and strippers, so I was aware of this world.

"I sat down with the designer and I said I want a dress, where my mates will come and see the show and go, 'You know what, after a couple of beers, I would.'"

This Morning continues weekdays from 10.30am.
