EastEnders' Shona McGarty shares hair transformation ahead of Whitney exit

EastEnders spoilers follow.

EastEnders actress Shona McGarty has revealed a brand new blonde hair transformation ahead of her exit as Whitney Dean.

McGarty has played Whitney on the BBC One soap for 15 years and had usually bounced between standard black hair and dyed red locks.

But now she's preparing to leave the role, McGarty has decided to go for something a bit more dramatic.

"Maybe blondes do have more fun?" she pondered on Instagram as she posted a video showcasing her longer, platinum blonde hair and professionally-done make-up.

She added in the caption: "A blonde walks into a bar…" while tagging her hair and makeup artist.

Fans in the comments compared her to everyone from Holly Willoughby and Bonnie Tyler, to co-stars Kellie Bright and Letitia Dean.

While Whitney's exit story is still being kept underwraps, we know it will involve a trip to Brighton with a returning Bianca Jackson, a mysterious new character, and a nasty accident.

When McGarty announced her exit, she said: "It's going to be the end of an era, or an earring, as the EastEnders saying goes.

"I've loved my time in Walford, but with the character of Whitney, bless her, she's had some awful things happen to her, and I think she needs a break.

"The door's open and I could always come back in the future. But at the moment, I want to pursue things that are in my heart, like singing — stuff that I've been doing since childhood and dreaming about," she added.

"EastEnders has been amazing; I just want to do other things."

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
