Nervous about being seen by those who knew her years ago, Cindy works hard to avoid being recognised and eventually makes it to No 45 to face the music.
But it’s not long before all hell breaks loose between the two women.
Anna and Gina get a world-shaking shock
Anna’s 21st birthday falls on Monday, and Elaine, Linda and George will be seen busily working to transform the Queen Vic into a Spanish fiesta. But George can’t help but feel emotionally overwhelmed that Rose (aka Cindy) is missing yet another milestone occasion.
However, after going outside to get some air, George is left stunned to see Cindy, who immediately claims to have had no knowledge of George or their daughters being in the Square.
But, wanting to protect the girls, George lies and says that they’re currently in Spain.
He then takes Cindy to the barrel store of the pub to demand answers, but Linda interrupts their covert chat and chastises George for taking Elaine for granted when it comes to the hard work she’s put in for Anna’s party.
Suddenly realising her daughters are just inches away, Cindy rushes into the main bar area and claps eyes on the pair of them – as well as the rest of the residents of Walford.
Phil and Sharon react badly to Ian’s reappearance
Two people who are undoubtedly shocked to see Ian are Phil and Sharon, which isn’t much of a surprise what with the shock poisoning a couple of Christmases ago having resulted in his hasty departure.
Phil is, as ever, uncompromising about his feelings: he wants Ian gone. But Wednesday’s drama will see Sharon plucking up the courage to talk to Ian. But what reception will she get?
Will Bobby’s past affect his future with Anna?
Bobby is understandably worried that Cindy and Anna will hate him due to what happened with Lucy and voices his concern to Ian.
And when Bobby tries to make amends with Anna in scenes to be shown on Friday, she explains that it’s better they both remain just friends given the circumstances.
Where does the week end?
So how does everyone involved react to Cindy’s seismic return? Well, Anna and Gina are both set to confront their mum before deciding to drown their sorrows at Peggy’s, where things soon get out of hand. George, meanwhile, finds his worst fears coming true and breaks down in tears.
Kathy, meanwhile, is left stunned when Ian reveals Cindy’s connection to the Knight family. And by Friday, Ian and Cindy are both forced to seek refuge at Alfie’s. So it’s not exactly a smooth return to the Square by any stretch of the imagination…
EastEnders airs on BBC One Monday to Thursdays, and streams on iPlayer.
