EastEnders star Colin Salmon discusses possible new characters

EastEnders actor Colin Salmon has discussed the possibility of new characters joining the soap, following recent revelations in George Knight's storyline.

George has been trying to learn more about his real family, after finding out that his 'adoptive' parents essentially paid for him via an illegal process known as 'baby farming'.

More recently, George learned via a friend of his mum's that he has two brothers who are still alive.

That means there's potential for new characters to join the BBC One soap, and Salmon has some ideas about who he'd like to play his on-screen siblings.

"Idris Elba would be good!" the actor told TV Times. "And I love Lennie James, he's a good mate. It depends on what they do and what they're like."

Of what he feels George's brothers would be like, he added: "The fact their dad wasn't around when they were young... they might have complexities, too.

"I'd hate it to be all wine and roses – although this is Walford, so I'm sure it wouldn't be!"

Salmon also explained that he was glad that George's first major EastEnders storyline wasn't an affair with his ex-wife Cindy Beale, despite the chemistry that's still there between them.

"I think it would have been obvious and disappointing," he said. "There is a loyalty to Elaine that is earned and deserved, and George loves her.

"There's always a spark with Cindy because George didn't want her to leave him and she's the mother of his daughters and she knows him.

"But I think I'm in the right home. And I'm really loving Cindy's relationship with Ian Beale; it's fun to watch."

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
