EastEnders star makes soap return after quitting acting and 11 years since Walford exit

Former EastEnders star Tony Discipline has made his soap return.

The actor shot to fame playing Tyler Moon on the BBC One soap. Tyler, along with brother Anthony (Matt Lapinskas) rocked up to Walford in 2011

And it’s fair to say the pair got themselves into plenty of trouble in the square. But for Tyler, his most memorable storyline included his on-and-off relationship with Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty).

Sadly, in 2013, Tyler said his goodbyes to Walford when he decided to leave and join Anthony to work on a cruise ship. Since his exit, he starred in the likes of and Celebrity Juice and several short films.

But back in 2020, he revealed he had packed in his acting career to become a firefighter. Tony surprised his social media followers when he shared a snap of himself to his Instagram account in his new uniform. He also shared a snap of himself in front of a fire engine wearing hi-vis trousers and a red London Fire Brigade t-shirt.

However, this month, Tony made his return to screens, starring in BBC’s Doctors. The series, about the doctors and staff at a busy Midlands GP practice, launched in 2000. And for 24 years, it has been a staple on screens and a firm-favourite with fans.

The actor played the role of David Marsden in the Birmingham-based soap. The storyline saw his character follow his estranged wife to the doctor's practice at night.

Thanks to receptionist Kirsty Millar (played by Kiruna Stamell), the recent parents managed to overcome their issues.

Despite leaving EastEnders 11 years ago, in 2023 Tyler revealed he would be up for returning to Walford. He told The Sun: “I loved my time there. It was a great chapter in my life and if the opportunity ever came up, I would definitely be interested.

"Tyler's still alive, so it could happen. He left to join his brother Anthony on a cruise. They must have got stuck in the Arctic because it's been a long old cruise!" he added.

Meanwhile Birmingham soap Doctors will sadly be taken off air this year. Last year, it was confirmed that the Beeb had axed the beloved soap - with its final episode airing in December 2024. According to bosses they put the blame on the show’s “increased expenses.”.
