Yahoo News EastEnders star reacts to powerful performance at BBC Festival of Remembrance
EastEnders star Shona McGarty has opened up on performing at the BBC Festival of Remembrance on Saturday (November 12).
The singer and soap star – best known for playing the role of Whitney Dean on the BBC series – gave a beautiful rendition of 'Hallelujah' to commemorate the lives of UK and Commonwealth veterans. The ballad was originally written and released by Canadian singer Leonard Cohen and also covered by Jeff Buckley.
McGarty performed alongside the Fourth Choir and a royal band at the Royal Albert Hall in London at the weekend. Members of the royal family, including King Charles, Prince William and Kate Middleton, were in attendance and watched as a video of the late Queen Elizabeth II was played at the event.

Following the performance, McGarty took to her Instagram to share her feelings about the ceremony.
"Such an honour. A truly humbling experience. We will remember them…" the singer captioned a video of her singing.
She earned praise from fellow celebrities, including her EastEnders co-stars Lacey Turner and Balvinder Sopal.
"Your talent is endless !!! I love you," Turner commented.
"My Life! My heart just stopped. This is incredible. Incredible, Shona," Sopal wrote.

EastEnders star Adam Woodyatt also congratulated McGarty, writing: "Stunning. Just stunning. You absolutely smashed it."
Ex-EastEnders actress Louisa Lytton shared a message for McGarty, calling her a "star".
"I hope this is the start of the world hearing your voice," she wrote.
