EastEnders star Tameka Empson breaks silence on Kim's exit plot

EastEnders star Tameka Empson has spoken out about Kim Fox's exit storyline, as Kim and her partner Howie Danes set off for a trip on a cruise ship.

This week, fans will see Howie being offered the job of a lifetime on a cruise ship, which will take him away from Walford for three months. After he brings an insecure Kim along to the company photoshoot, Kim impresses the team and is offered her own role on the cruise as social media manager.

Despite facing some family hurdles along the way, Kim and Howie do end up heading off to work on the cruise, and actress Empson has made it clear that her character will love her time away from Albert Square.

"Kim's gonna be okay!" she said during an appearance on The One Show on January 22. "She's gonna be okay - she's going on a nice cruise with Howie and the children. She's going to be enjoying herself. She'll be fine!"

The star added that "the Kimfluencer is very alive" and thriving in her temporary role, with Empson due to reprise her role as Kim following a short break from the soap. Her return date has not yet been confirmed.

While Empson is taking a break from EastEnders, she'll be busy working on a stage production of musical The Big Life at the Theatre Royal Stratford East, which celebrates the 20th anniversary of the show first premiering.

Empson co-wrote the historical musical, which blends elements of William Shakespeare's play Love's Labours Lost with stories inspired by the Windrush generation, and she is also starring in its revival as Mrs Aphrodite.

The show follows four men who arrive in the UK from the West Indies in hope of a better life, but they get more than they bargained for when they arrive and meet a group of spirited women.

Empson revealed that she is "so passionate" about the show, adding: "It is such a great musical and I really urge everybody to go and see it, because it's not only about the Windrush generation but immigration throughout."

The Big Life is running from Friday, February 16 until Saturday, March 30, 2024, with tickets available to buy on Theatre Royal Stratford East's website.

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
