EastEnders star on why Linda wants to be caught out

EastEnders spoilers follow.

EastEnders' Kellie Bright has said that her character Linda Carter may want to be found out over the big Christmas whodunit death.

Linda is struggling following the death of Keanu Taylor at Christmas. After a 10-month murder mystery teased in flash-forwards scenes, Linda was revealed to be the Queen Vic killer, stabbing Keanu to death in an attempt to defend Sharon Watts.

In recent episodes, Linda is badly grappling with guilt, turning to alcohol to numb her pain, and being concerned about the other Walford Six (not just Sharon, but also Stacey, Denise, Suki and Kathy) going to prison if they're found out.

"I definitely think that for her, the only thing that would make her feel at peace would be being able to take responsibility and face the consequences of what happened. But they are all so far down the rabbit hole now, that the consequences of her coming clean would have repercussions for all of those women," Bright recently told Digital Spy and other media.

"They would all be accessories so it's not just about her. I think that's the fundamental reason why she doesn't [reveal what they've done], and for her children. Mick's not there, so they've only got her and now they are all too far down that road to turn back."

When there's a problem at the Queen Vic, it all becomes too much for the publican , who enters a paranoid spiral.

"When there's a problem with the café floor, it's just the icing on the cake. I think she believes there is something inherently bad about her, and I think she thinks that bad things are going to keep happening to her," the actress said. "It's terrifying and awful, and obviously the panic sets in, but in some ways Linda thinks it's inevitable."

Bight continued: "Linda is carrying a huge amount of guilt. Not just for what she's done to Keanu, but also what she's doing to all of these other women.

"Kathy's had to put Rocky in jail. Sharon's disappeared and as far as Linda is concerned, she hates her. Stacey keeps on telling her to pull herself together and she can't, and Linda knows that the last thing Stacey wants is to end up in prison. Denise is losing her grip on reality and Suki is having to deal with Nish, and hand over everything she has ever worked for," the soap star said about the Walford Six.

"I think she's watching everyone disintegrate and Linda is so laden with the responsibility and guilt for all of them."

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
