EastEnders stars win Rainbow Honour award for Suki and Eve story

EastEnders stars Heather Peace and Balvinder Sopal have won a prestigious Rainbow Honour for the soap's Suki Panesar and Eve Unwin storyline.

The show has been airing an affair storyline for the two characters, with Suki finally confessing her love for Eve earlier this year.

The Rainbow Honours awards individuals and organisations that work all year round to influence change and promote LGBTQIA+ equality.

The awards "tips its hats and reward our Rainbow Heroes, Sheros and Queeroes, those wonderful individuals and organisations whose work does so much to further LGBTQIA equality and inclusion".

The Suki and Eve storyline was given Media Moment of the Year at the ceremony, and reacting to the win, Eve actress Heather said on Instagram that she was "thrilled and honoured but it’s a team effort and a team win".

Balvinder, who plays Suki, said in her Instagram Stories that it was "an honour" to take home the award, adding that she is "both moved by & proud to tell this story".

Sonia Fowler actress Natalie Cassidy wrote that she was "SO PROUD" about the win, while Nish Panesar star Navin Chowdhry sent a series of red heart emojis.

Elsewhere on EastEnders, the soap has confirmed when Lola Pearce's exit will air after the character was told that she only has weeks to live as her palliative chemotherapy treatment hadn't had the desired effect.

The final scenes will air right at the end of this month, as Jay faces "the most difficult moment of his life".

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
