Many Game of Thrones fans were delighted earlier this week when it was seemingly confirmed that Ed Sheeran's controversial character was killed off.

In the season 8 premiere, three women appear to discuss the fate of Lannister soldier "Eddie", whose face was apparently burned off and no longer has eyelids.

However, hold your horses, as Sheeran himself appears to have poked fun at it and joked that his character may not be gone after all.

"Thanks @GameOfThrones, I knew I was a survivor," he reportedly wrote (via The Sun) in his Instagram Stories.

Well, if we do see him again, we suppose he won't have any eyelids.

As well as the (apparent) fate of Sheeran's character, the first episode of season 8 also saw Jon Snow's true parentage finally revealed to him by Samwell Tarly.

However, actor John Bradley has teased that Sam may have a 'manipulative' reason for revealing the news to the King in the North, especially given that he had just found out Daenerys Targaryen had executed his father and brother.

"When it comes to Jon, everything [Sam] does seemingly for other people – especially Jon – he’s helping himself, as well," he said.

"He’s as much a schemer and a manipulator as anybody else. He’s got his own and Gilly’s and Baby Sam’s interests at heart, more than anything else."

Game of Thrones season 8 airs on HBO in the US and Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK. Tune in to Digital Spy's Game of Thrones livestreams on Monday evenings, straight after each episode, on Instagram and Facebook.
