Ed Sheeran has revealed that his next album will be his "lowest-selling" yet – though we assume by that he means a few squillion as opposed to a few gazillion.

The 'Shape of You' star opened up about his follow-up to this year's mega-selling ÷, and says he plans to strip things back a bit.

"My plan is a lo-fi album that will be my lowest-selling, but most loved," he told The Times, revealing that he was taking inspiration from Bruce Springsteen's intimate album Nebraska (thanks to Game of Thrones' Kit Harington).

"I only heard Springsteen recently," he added. "I was with Kit from Game of Thrones. We had a night out in New York, got back to his hotel to drink more, and he played 'Atlantic City'. Then, when I heard Nebraska..."

Last week, Ed received his MBE for services to music and charity at Buckingham Palace, even if he may have breached royal protocol in the process.

He was understandably chuffed about it all, saying afterwards: "Do you know what I love, my grandfather [Bill Sheeran] was a massive royalist, he had all the commemorative plates and stuff.

"And he died on this day four years ago, so it's actually quite a nice full circle thing, I guess he'd be pretty proud."

Expect Ed's very poorly-selling fourth album to drop at some point in the next few years.
