Ed Sheeran fans are only just recovering from his Glastonbury Festival headline set – and now he’s hit them with news of a stadium tour.

The guitar strumming musician, 26, announced the news this afternoon and revealed he would confirm the destinations for the UK and European dates tomorrow.

Sheeran shared a picture of himself straddling a cake made to look like his head as he broke the news on Instagram.

He captioned the image: “Announcing UK and Europe stadium tour tomorrow. This was the only picture I could find at short notice x.”

The news came hours after he was forced to defend himself against backing track accusations following his headline set on Sunday night.

The Thinking Out Loud singer performed a string of his biggest hits, including covers of Superstition and Ain’t No Sunshine, on the Pyramid stage – but some questioned whether or not he was playing live.

Explaining himself he tweeted: “Never thought I'd have to explain it, but everything I do in my live show is live, it's a loop station, not a backing track. Please google x.

“Anyway, great night, great atmosphere, family, friends, fun. Love you all x.”

Sheeran attracted a star studded crowd with David, Victoria and Brooklyn Beckham watching from the side of the stage.

The singer is currently working on his fourth album and recently revealed that it has been a work in progress for the last six years.
