Yahoo News Is Edgar found at the end of Eric?
Benedict Cumberbatch has a new mystery on his hands in his latest Netflix series, Eric, and we've explained the tense ending to the psychological thriller.
The six-part series follows a desperate father, Vincent, as he searches for his missing nine-year-old son on the streets of 1980s New York and desperately clings to his son’s drawings of a blue monster puppet named Eric.
So, does Vincent find Edgar? Does Eric appear on Good Morning Sunshine? Plus, what happens between Vincent and Cassie? Puppets at the ready, because here is the ending to Eric explained.
Ledroit discovers what happened to Marlon
The final episode begins with Vincent passed out underground, while Cassie and Sebastian are at the food drive for the unhoused after the police raided the subway tunnels the night before. Meanwhile, Gator gives Ledroit a VHS security tape from The Lux after they spent the night together.
On the tape, we see the final moments of Marlon Rochelle as he was taken down an alleyway at the back of the club by Deputy Mayor Costello to engage in a sexual act. Then, he was subsequently beaten up by New York police officers Nokes and Kennedy, with Nokes beating Marlon to death.
So, with Gator's encouragement, Ledroit goes to the police station where he plays the tape in front of his colleagues, orders them to arrest those involved and confronts Cripp, who threatens him, but Ledroit doesn't back down.
Vincent confronts Yuusuf
Vincent wakes up and sees Edgar's drawings on the walls, with Yuusuf soon arriving to collect his belongings and Vincent confronting him. Yuusuf tells Vincent that Edgar was too scared of him to go home, which is why he followed Yuusuf down into the tunnels.
He tells him that he tried to keep Edgar safe, but sent him with Raya after learning that the police were after him. Yusuuf gives Vincent directions to try and find Edgar then leaves, as he's on the run. Soon, Eric confronts Vincent with some home truths and they fight.
Ledroit arrests Marlon's killers
At the sanitation unit, Ledroit arrests workers Alexander and Misha and finds countless newspaper clippings about Marlon in Misha's trailer, as well as his bloodied basketball jersey.
Then, Ledroit and his fellow officers storm into the church where Costello's child is being baptised and arrests him in connection with Marlon's murder. As Ledroit brings the Mayor into the police station, Tina tells him they found a body.
We learn that Edgar's jacket was found next to Raya's body after she drowned during the police raid of the tunnels. But, right when we think Edgar is also dead, we cut to him trying to get out of a New York gutter.
Back at the station, Ledroit and Alexander plead the fifth during their interrogations. But, Misha admits to Ledroit that they disposed of Marlon's body on Bruno Di Bari's orders, Mayor Costello's brother-in-law.
In his interrogation, the Mayor said he didn't want Marlon to die and tried to stop it, but the officers handcuffed him so he couldn't help. Then, he sobs as he admits his involvement in Marlon's murder.
Edgar is found
Vincent leaves the tunnels to try and find Edgar, while a protest erupts for the unhoused in Central Park. Soon, he heads to Good Morning Sunshine, where he dresses up as Eric then goes to the Central Park to address the media and crowd, including Cassie and Ledroit, in hopes of Edgar returning home.
Soon, we see Edgar in a New York diner where he sees Eric on a TV screen. Then, Vincent takes off his costume and runs through the city back to his house, with Edgar arriving straight after him. Cassie is right behind them, and the family reunite. Meanwhile, Marlon's mother, Cecile, sits in the police station.
Soon, we see Vincent admitting his problem to Cassie and making his way to a rehabilitation facility, waved off by caretaker Mr. Anderson. Meanwhile, we hear on the news that multiple arrests were made in connection with Marlon's disappearance.
We also hear Lennie being exposed as one of those involved in a sex trafficking ring in Gator's previous club, so he subsequently takes his own life. Plus, Cripp's office is raided for evidence, Nokes is imprisoned and Costello is ousted as Mayor.
Meanwhile, Ledroit is on a boat to the landfill site with Cecile, where we learn that Marlon's remains have been found. Later addressing the press, Cecile says she still has hope and asks New Yorkers to do better. Later, Ledroit sobs as he packs up his apartment.
Vincent sobers up
In a flash forward, Vincent is sober and meets with his father. He tells him he once admired and respected him, but not anymore and says goodbye.
Back at the Good Day Sunshine studios, he has also been re-hired and Edgar, a heavily-pregnant Cassie and Sebastian watch the show from the crowd. Meanwhile, Ledroit drives past a now-closed The Lux, and vists Cecile and her son for dinner.
Back at the studios, Edgar walks across the set’s bridge wearing the Eric costume, which makes Vincent cry and the two covers. From the balcony, Eric the imaginary monster watches over them both.
Eric is streaming on Netflix now.
